Let’s get to know each other . . .

ABOUT

Are you thinking about starting an online business that affords you the freedom to do more of things you love? To work fewer hours, with less stress, and grow your income to new heights? If so, you’re not alone.

When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and forced so many people to work from home, it felt as if the workforce as we’ve known it had a collective awakening. With an inside glimpse of the work-from-home life, many people began seeing the potential for true work-life balance with fresh, dreamy eyes.

I totally get that. And I’m not at all surprised.

Hi! I’m Karen Hittelman – a (recently empty-nested) single mom and serial entrepreneur.

Karen Hittelman, founder of Grab Your Happy, sitting on a white sofa with big throw pillows

I’ve run a freelance copywriting business online since 2004. I work about 20 to 30 hours per week (from home), on my own schedule.

And I earn a six-figure income.

(BTW, my new pie-in-the-sky income goal is to hit seven-figures — by creating a few semi-passive income streams. I’ll keep you posted on my progress.)

Building a profitable online business has given me the freedom to raise my daughter on my own, send her off to college, take vacations, plot my own course, and prioritize the things that make me happy.

But it wasn’t always this way.

If you’re feeling trapped in a job that doesn’t make you happy . . .

Or if you’ve quit your job to “do your own thing” . . .

Or if you already have an online business but are feeling stuck . . .

I want to help you achieve the entrepreneurial lifestyle of your dreams.

My bumpy road to entrepreneurial success

Before I started my freelance copywriting business, I had a few other entrepreneurial ventures.

In the mid-’90s, I started a business with my mom called Wine Wreaths. We manufactured these decorative doo-dads that slip over the neck of a wine bottle to catch drips when you pour. It sounds RIDICULOUS (and I kinda cringe at it now), but we landed sales with wine and gift shops across the U.S. and finally made a huge bulk sale to Williams-Sonoma (U.S. and in Japan).

At that point, the business became too much work and trouble, so we sold it (for a very small amount of money).

In 2002, a friend and I started a prepared meal delivery service. Mind you, this was before all the massive boom of home meal delivery services available today. We were ahead of our time. 🙂

But unfortunately, we didn’t know how to market, run, and scale the business.

And within a couple years, we hit a point where running the business was wearing us down, and we had no idea how to take the business to the next level. Longish-story-short, we sold that business (for chump change, once again), and went our separate ways.

Ah… if only we’d had the confidence and know-how to stick it out, imagine where we might be today (looking at you Hello Fresh and Blue Apron).

Sticking it out, as it turns out, is a HUGE factor in achieving entrepreneurial success.

Next up on my entrepreneurial journey?  I started a freelance copywriting business. My daughter was a toddler the time, and my main goal was to be able to  work from home and have the flexibility to set my own schedule.

Cut to the present . . . and I’m now embarking on yet another entrepreneurial venture: Grab Your Happy (yup – this very website you’re on right now).

Here’s why I launched Grab Your Happy

It took a while for me to hit my entrepreneurial stride, but after running a successful freelance copywriting business for almost 20 years now, I can confidently say that I know what it takes to build and sustain a profitable online business.

The life of an entrepreneur suits me. I can’t imagine anything else.

As a single mom, having a career that gives me the freedom to work from home, on my own schedule, and determine my own income has been a lovely and empowering experience.

In addition to the financial and time freedom I’ve achieved through living my life as an entrepreneur, I’ve also gained valuable new skills, built confidence, and grown as a person.

And I want to help others do the same. But faster, and without all the mistakes and missed opportunities.

If you’re thinking about taking the leap into online entrepreneurship, I’m here for you!
